Visual Perception: A Novel Difference Channel in Binocular Vision
نویسندگان
چکیده
A recent study provides compelling evidence that binocular vision uses two separate channels; one channel adds the images from the two eyes, and the other subtracts them.

Feedback from higher to lower visual areas for visual recognition may be weaker in the periphery: Glimpses from the perception of brief dichoptic stimuli.
Eye movements bring attended visual inputs to the center of vision for further processing. Thus, central and peripheral vision should have different functional roles. Here, we use observations of visual perception under dichoptic stimuli to infer that there is a difference in the top-down feedback from higher brain centers to primary visual cortex. Visual stimuli to the two eyes were designed s...

Background : To determine the effect of binocular summation on the time domain transient VEP wave's components. Methods : The monocular and binocular transient visual evoked potentials of 21 normally vision volunteers 18 to 24 years (mean ± SD, 20.7 ± 1.9) during a reversing checkerboard stimulus with spatiotemporal frequency of 2.18-4 cpd-Hz were recorded. The amplitude and latency of N75,...

In Li and Atick's [1, 2] theory of efficient stereo coding, the two eyes' signals are transformed into uncorrelated binocular summation and difference signals, and gain control is applied to the summation and differencing channels to optimize their sensitivities. In natural vision, the optimal channel sensitivities vary from moment to moment, depending on the strengths of the summation and diff...
متن کاملBinocular spatial induction for the perception of depth does not cross the midline.
Although horizontal binocular retinal disparity between images in the two eyes resulting from their different views of the world has long been the centerpiece for understanding the unique characteristics of stereovision, it does not suffice to explain many binocular phenomena. Binocular depth contrast (BDC), the induction of an appearance of visual pitch in a centrally located line by pitched-f...
متن کاملQuality Index for Stereoscopic Images by Separately Evaluating Adding and Subtracting
The human visual system (HVS) plays an important role in stereo image quality perception. Therefore, it has aroused many people's interest in how to take advantage of the knowledge of the visual perception in image quality assessment models. This paper proposes a full-reference metric for quality assessment of stereoscopic images based on the binocular difference channel and binocular summation...
